Chaotic Pop Records

Chaotic Pop Records is a new label hailing from Tangerang, Indonesia. Their tag line is “twee as fuck!, chaotic as p!o!p” and the label’s first two releases certainly encapsulates that.

I am sure you are all bored with this old man referring to C86 and Sarah Records when it comes to bands from Indonesia, especially those from Bandung, but Anselmus embrace both on My Life Is Better With Indiepop.

It’s a lo-fi retro bedroom pop track and the words “In my room, I take my records …indiepop, playing, all day long I would never stop From C86 to Sarah Records, I dance and sing along” clearly gives the game away. If not, it’s the infectious melodies and harmonies that do the trick. It’s the best ode to indiepop since When Nalda Became Punk’s feel good 2014 single Indiepop or Whatever!

And the homage continues on The Cuddly Strum’s Where the Sun Always Shines of which the song’s subject is a secret world (see what I mean!) which is filled with joy and twee. It’s a simple and effective bedroom pop song that makes the heart swoon.

Both tracks, and the artwork too, transport me back to the days when I was alone in my bedroom listening too. Oh! You can well guess the rest! Pick both singles up from the label, which like the two acts here, is certainly one to listen out for in the future.
