Tossing Seed – When You Come Around

The charmingly named (possibly after a Super chunk compilation) Tossing Seed hail from Magelang, Indonesia, forming last year. The label makes reference to previous singles, but all I have found is this raw recording from last year. Either way, I am going to take a punt and declare that When You Come Around is their debut EP!

Like most indiepop bands in Indonesia they take a bow to the indiepop scene circa UK the mid 1980s (When You Come Around), although I also sense harshness belonging to the likes of Husker Du amongst the guitars (The Flower Still Remains). The female voice gives an air of The Primitives, Strawberry Story and Black Tambourine to songs such as Fall Of Sweet Pea, Memory Capsule and Can I Still Shine. There is a lot of fuzz, some distortion and plenty of harmonies with this being one of the best things you will hear coming out of Indonesia this year.

Blast it, let’s just say it will be one of the best things you will hear this year, full stop. Plenty for the fan of retro sounding C86 pop and recent revivalists such as The Hazmats here. Er, buy it.

When You Come Around is out now via Paska Records.
