The Room – The Drift

Post-punk band The Room are back after a 38-year hiatus. Original members Dave Jackson and Becky Stringer are joined by guitarist Darren Brown, Stringer’s son Ethan Kyme on keyboards and drummer Tom McCabe. The band have just released their first album since 1985 titled Restless Fate. Jackson’s always had a great voice, and I am glad to see (hear) it again in full flow under The Room Name.

The band have also released a video for the album’s opening track The Drift. It’s a reflective, touching song about slow loss and is full of melancholy.

Since the Room split in 1985 Jackson and Springer went on to form several other bands including the excellent Benny Profane. Jackson has also recorded under his own name and, most recently, he issued a string of releases as The Room in the Wood with ex The Room bandmate Paul Cavanagh who some may remember as being in Top.

Restless Fate is out now and can be purchased digitally from here. It’s also available on vinyl and CD from 9×9 Records.
