Central Javan outfit Loca Polka are back after almost four years away – seems to be a lot of that these days! I covered them and their delectable single Surrender a few years ago, but I am sad to say I had forgotten all about them until this new single dropped onto my digital mat!
Solace reminds me of the shoegaze/indie bands who were dutifully pushing back the tide of Brit Pop in the 1990s to no avail. Female fronted bands such as Lush or Pale Saints (MK2) spring to mind, as do the likes of Mazzy Star. The way singer Nuri Hapsari’s delicate voice wistfully floats over the glimmering, fluctuating arrangements are a joy to hear. Oh, before I forget, welcome back!
