When I am not listening to indiepop under all its various guises or post-punk whether it’s guitar or synth based, you well may find me listening to electronica. Whilst my ears cannot take the blunt full force in your face techno I enjoyed in my youth, I still enjoy electro, indie dance and “ethereal” techno. Berlin based Steyoyoke Records is home of the latter, and they have started 2023 in glorious style. It would be rude not to mention the three releases so far this year!
Haffenfold – Elesa (Original Mix)
Entrancing techno based around a telephone message left by our mysterious protagonist and caller, of whom the song is named after. Drifting, hypnotic and addictive, pulling the listener in, wondering what is going to happen next.
Michael Warren – D.M.X. (Original Mix)
Taken from his new Baltic EP D.M.X is the pick of the three tracks for me. Sounding like the demented cousin of Underworld’s Dark & Long, it twists and turns on its melodic journey. The whole EP can be streamed below.
Monarke – Cerebral Awakening
Haunting and gloomy with vocals, which are full of sad feelings, gravitating between the minimal beats. Music for the emotive soul.
