Flannel – Preface

I remember Flannel from their releases on Cloudberry Records and the short-lived German label Edition 59. They have released records since then but they dropped off my radar years ago and when this released on Shiny Happy Records dropped through my Bandcamp feed and I had to make sure it was the same band. I am still not convinced because The Preface EP sounds a world apart from their fuzzy shoegaze sound that I recalled from years ago!

So back to the present day. This EP is full of 1950/60’s inspired indiepop tunes and I hear inspirations ranging from Buddy Holly (Sunny) and the Beatles (Some Lakeside, For Sure) for example. However, the highlight for me is Personal Notes On Herman Grid which packs a jangling punch or two. The Preface EP is available via Shiny Happy Records (cassette or digital) whilst I need to reacquaint myself with their earlier works.
