Catching Up with Long Players!

Young Romance – Another’s Blood After what seemed like aeons Young Romance finally released their debut album at the back end of last month. Because of that the album does have that “best of” feel but given the likes of previous singles Pale and Wild who can really complain? Buy it from here or digitally from the band. Facebook Bubblegum Lemonade – The Great Leap Backward I must admit to having mixed feelings about Bubblegum Lemonade these days. I was not too impressed by July’s Beard On A Bike EP as, aside from the title track, the rest of their … Continue reading Catching Up with Long Players!

The Fireworks – All The Time

All The Time is taken from The Fireworks new EP entitled Black and Blue. It’s a 1980’s inspired fuzzy indiepop track which is catchy, addictive and most importantly, as demonstrated by the video, FUN! The rest of the EP mixes up the indiepop template a fair bit and if you are a fan of C86 and it’s ilk you will love it. The EP is out now on 10″ vinyl via Shelflife Records or if you are still in the EU it’s best to pick it up from the band’s bandcamp page or Rough Trade. Red Sleeping Beauty – Mi Amor

Mi Amor is the second single since their comeback by Swedish indiepop legends Red Sleeping Beauty. It’s a fine piece of synthpop sung in both English and Spanish. An album, entitled Kristina, will be released later this year. The band will also be making their first live appearance in 19 years at this years Madrid Popfest. Mi Amor is out now on Shelflife Records and will also be released on Labrador Records. Facebook Continue reading Red Sleeping Beauty – Mi Amor

Red Sleeping Beauty – Always

Always in the comeback single from Swedish indiepop legends Red Sleeping Beauty. It’s like they have never gone away as this is the band at their “vintage” best complete with an intro that sounds like OMD’s Enola Gay. Apparently there is more on the way in 2015. I cannot wait given how good this is. Always is out now on Shelflife Records. Order it from here. Facebook Continue reading Red Sleeping Beauty – Always

The Fireworks – Switch Me On

It’s been out for a couple of weeks now and it’s a cracker setting the benchmark for all other album releases this year. From opener With My Heart via the brilliant single Runaround to the closing track it’s a glorious way to spend 37 and a bit minutes. That means I get to play it twice on my journey into work! Get it from Rough Trade (UK) or Shelflife Records (US) Photo by Pierre Delpino taken at the bands recent launch show at Rough Trade East. The Fireworks – On and On

On and On is taken from the Fireworks forthcoming debut album Switch Me On which is due for release in February 2015 on Shelflife Records. On and On is noisy, frantic and clocks in under two minutes. Think The Buzzcocks meeting up with The Shop Assistants. Now that’s the perfect pop recipe for me. On and On is available digitally from here. You can pre-order Switch Me On in blood red vinyl as well as CD from the label (US) or you can order the CD version via the band or vinyl via Rough Trade (UK/EU). The Luxembourg Signal – We Go On

We Go On is taken by from the bands’ , who feature ex members of Aberdeen, Fonda and Trembling Blue Stars, debut self titled album which is out now on Shelflife Records. Flyying Colours – Not Today

Australian band Flyying Colours follow up their excellent debut EP with a new track called Not Today.
