Parsnip will be releasing a new four track EP in May. Titled Adding Up it features four tracks and the band have made the title track available for streaming. It’s a lovely indiepop tune that still draws from 1960s girl bands for influences although it’s not so prominent here as on previous efforts. Dolly Mixture was another band that sprung to mind whilst I was listening to the track. In short it’s as catchy as ever. Adding Up will be available in limited 7″ vinyl (500 copies) and digital formats from Anti Fade whilst those in Japan should be able … Continue reading Parsnip – Adding Up
Australian girl group revivalists Parsnip will be releasing their debut album When The Trees Bear Fruit on Trouble in Mind Records at the end of August. The first track previewed from the album is Lift Off! and, once more, we are given a 1960s inspired treat. It’s a harmonious song as all the band members join in whilst heads start swaying from side to side. It reminds me on those sing-along songs that used to appear on kid’s shows when I was growing up. Give it a spin and you will hear what I mean. When The Trees Bear Fruit … Continue reading Parsnip – Lift Off!
Split single from two of the current crop of Melbourne bands, both of whom have contributed three tracks each. However, at time of writing, only one track from each band is (was) available for streaming. The Shifters are a new name on me and they contrast greatly to their release mates. Only one thought crossed my mind whilst listening to Photo Op and that was is that The Fall I am hearing? Actually it was two thoughts and the … Continue reading Parsnip/The Shifters – Hip Blister
I have been listening to quite a few of the 1960’s Beat Girl compilations of late and the vintage sounding Parsnip easily sound like they could have appeared on any one of them. Both sides of this retro sounding 7″ just wanna make you get up and dance especially the wonderful Winter which gets my feet tapping with no effort at all! Feeling Small is available on 7″ and digital formats from Anti Fade. Facebook Continue reading Parsnip – Feeling Small
Health is taken from Australian band Parsnip’s self titled debut single that is due for release later this month. Straight from the off with it’s handclaps both the song and it’s cover art suggest that the song could easily of come from another era. The pleasing 1960’s girl group style vocals and the garage guitar sound works really well and wet the appetite for the full release. Parsnip will be available in 7″ vinyl and digital formats via Anti Fade. Pre-order from here. Facebook Continue reading Parsnip – Health
