Alpaca Sports – Sealed With A Kiss

Alpaca Sports release their début album Sealed With A Kiss next month. It’s a split release between Dufflecoat Records (UK) and Luxury Records (Sweden). The album contains 10 tracks including some previously released as 7″ singles and four new songs. The Salient Braves – Somewhere Sordid EP

The title and lead track on this EP will more than likely to be in my top 10 tracks of the year. Hell the rest of the EP is pretty fine too. It certainly is one of the strongest releases musically I have heard in 2013 coupled with intelligent and witty writing. There is even a decent cover of The Kinks Waterloo Sunset which may give you an idea behind some of main man Matt Bailey’s songwriting influences. Various – Dead Funny Compilation Vol​.​1

A compilation from Japanese label Dead Funny Records featuring bands spearheading the ‘C86’ revival in that country that came out at the beginning of the year. Here is a nice little article about the current Japanese indiepop scene which also mentions Dufflecoat Records a label that releases music from some of the bands mentioned here in the UK. Tripping The Light Fantastic / Honeyheads – Split 7″

On their last set of 7″ single releases Dufflecoat Records visited Nagoya, Japan. For this split 7″ release they head to one of my favourite cities Hamburg featuring two bands Tripping The Light Fantastic and Honeyheads. I have not heard of the former though but glancing at their photo on facebook I see that they share at least one member with the latter. The Colleagues – S/T EP

Whilst the UK indiepop scene stagnates once more we have to look further afield for our fix. Bands from The Philippines and Indonesia have been producing high quality indiepop for a few years now ably promoted by the likes of the amazing SEA Indie and the now seemingly defunct Popscene Manila (just go and download all those releases!).
