Flowers – Joanna

Here is another track taken from Flower’s debut album Do What You Want To, It’s What You Should Do which is due out next month. New single Joanna was originally released last year on Oddbox Records and whilst this version a bit more polished thankfully it does not lose much of it’s rawness. Indeed Rachel’s voice is stunningly brought to the fore! Joanna is out later this month as a limited edition 7″ single. The album will be out on Fortuna Pop (UK/EU) and Kanine Records (US) on September 8th & 9th. Facebook Continue reading Flowers – Joanna

Pang – Young Professionals

Just to prove that everyone hears things differently I have read a lot of comparisons of Pang to The Long Blondes. This is a bit wide of the mark for me and I would say that Pang owe their sound to the likes of female fronted post punk acts such as Girls at Our Best, The Modettes and to a lesser degree a punkier Slits but then again I am an old man! Amongst their peers I would suggest what Liechtenstein were doing a couple of years ago also fits the mould as evidenced on the tracks available for preview … Continue reading Pang – Young Professionals

Worries – Age

One of the highlights of the recent Beko Summer Compilation was Those Days by Worries. I was impressed enough by their homage (well his seeing as it’s 22 year old Alex) to all things indiepop (think Sarah, Labrador etc) that I also sought out other recordings. The good news that there is an impending debut single release. It’s called Age b/w Sometimes and will be out on the Figment Recordings label in cassette format. Give it a listen – you would swear you heard it long ago on Air Balloon Road! It’s out on August 14th. You can pre-order it … Continue reading Worries – Age

Flowers – Young

Young is taken from Flowers forthcoming debut album Do What You Want To, It’s What You Should Do which is due out in early September on Fortuna Pop (UK/EU) and Kanine Records (US). A lovely, lovely song and I cannot wait to hear the rest. You can buy Young digitally from Bandcamp. EDIT: A nice interview with band member Rachel can be found at DOA – adequacy.net Facebook Continue reading Flowers – Young

Tyrannosaurus Dead / Joanna Gruesome Split 7″

Tyrannosaurus Dead and Joanna Gruesome release a split 7″ single on Oddbox Records later this month. The former provide a brand new track in the shape of Post Holiday Dead Song whilst the latter provide Anti Parent Cowboy Killers which is taken from last years excellent Weird Sister album. Both tracks are fuzzy and noisy indiepop of the highest order. Pre-order it from here. Continue reading Tyrannosaurus Dead / Joanna Gruesome Split 7″

Peru – Sent To Saltcoats / Time On The Clock

The opening fifteen seconds of Sent To Saltcoats suggest we could have a Northern Soul floor stomper on our hands before it merges with a jangling indiepop sound. Flip side Time On The Clock is full of rhyming guitars that bounce along in conjunction with frontman Brian’s strong and distinctive vocals. An excellent single all round. The single is out now on Archdeacon Of Pop Records in 7″ and digital formats. Facebook Continue reading Peru – Sent To Saltcoats / Time On The Clock

Flyying Colours – Not Today

Australian band Flyying Colours follow up their excellent debut EP with a new track called Not Today. They sound a bit like Ride meeting Dinosaur Jr with a side helping of other Creation bands such as Swervedriver and My Bloody Valentine thrown in for good measure. Not Today is out now on Shelflife Records (the mp3 version also contains a FLAC version) whilst it follows in the UK & EU on Monday via Club AC30. Clearing The Decks

I have bookmarked a lot of music to mention but time prevents me from writing about them all individually so this post is a round up of them all serving as my must buy list too! Note: if you want to listen to a companion playlist to this post head over here. The Hundredth Anniversary released their Wreckers EP back in March. Not sure why I didn’t mention it then as it’s great. Another great release on Oddbox Records. Spanish indie poppers Band A Part have a compilation of their early material and demos out on Elefant Records. It’s a … Continue reading Clearing The Decks
