Girl One & The Grease Guns – Suburban Robot

Suburban Robot is taken from the new Girl One & The Grease Guns/Jen Schande split single that is out now on Squirrel Records. It’s a fine slab of synth inspired post punk a sound which Girl One & The Grease Guns have made their own during the past year or two. Dig that robot! Heavy Heart – Shell

Shell by Peckham’s Heavy Heart is taken from the bands debut self release entitled the This Season EP. It’s a sublime piece of dreampop that, despite listening to it enough these past few days, the rest of the EP just cannot reach although parts of Daisy Chain come valiantly close. It’s available on cassette or as pay what you want digital formats from the band’s bandcamp page. Homepage Facebook Continue reading Heavy Heart – Shell

Records I Like Tracks Of The Year 2014 – 5 to 1

Tracks 10 to 6 can be found here. The countdown continues…….. 5. The Radio Dept. – Death to Fascism The Radio Dept. only seem to release songs these days when there is a general election in their native Sweden. Death To Fascism is their response to the rise of the extreme right in Sweden and features chants of Smrt fašizmu, sloboda narodu over what sounds like a remix of The Jesus and Mary Chain’s Reverence. You can download the song for free from Soundcloud. 4. The Wendy Darlings – Bobby Darin Taken from the album The Insufferable Fatigues of Idleness … Continue reading Records I Like Tracks Of The Year 2014 – 5 to 1

Records I Like Tracks Of The Year 2014 – 10 to 6

Phew. It was a hard choice picking just 10 songs to represent the Records I Like Top 10 Tracks for 2014 and I think I should really thinking about a move to Spain at some point given the amount of Spanish indiepop I have listened to in 2014. The just missing out pile included tracks by Lost Tapes, Earth Girls, Shackleton, Teen Runnings, Factory Floor, The Debutantes, Joanna Gruesome, My Light Shines For You, Zipper, Lightfoils, PinkshinyUltrablast, Peru, Crescendo, Hardfloor, The Hobbes Fanclub and The Popguns off the top of my head – maybe I should have done a top … Continue reading Records I Like Tracks Of The Year 2014 – 10 to 6

Hard Left – Skinheads Home For Christmas

Hard Left, who are a band who hark back to the 1970’s both in terms of music and political attitude, knock out an instant punk Christmas classic backed with a cover of John Paul Young/Bay City Roller’s Yesterday’s Hero. Play loud and get Santa pogo’ing down that chimney. Out now on limited edition 7″ via Future Perfect or as a free digital download. Get it here. The Fireworks – On and On

On and On is taken from the Fireworks forthcoming debut album Switch Me On which is due for release in February 2015 on Shelflife Records. On and On is noisy, frantic and clocks in under two minutes. Think The Buzzcocks meeting up with The Shop Assistants. Now that’s the perfect pop recipe for me. On and On is available digitally from here. You can pre-order Switch Me On in blood red vinyl as well as CD from the label (US) or you can order the CD version via the band or vinyl via Rough Trade (UK/EU). JMRS – Only A Feeling (Epic Journey Mix)

It’s like 1990 around here and in more ways than one. Whilst JMRS take their own track turning into one that reminds me the hazy laid back Balearic sound it also features one Andy Bell of the recently reformed Ride who hit their stride around the same time. Bell also remixes the track himself which harks to a bygone area encompassing the indie dance sound with a bit of noodling thrown in for good measure. There are two more mixes by JMRS but I wouldn’t bother with them to be honest. If it gets to much for you over Christmas … Continue reading JMRS – Only A Feeling (Epic Journey Mix)
