Tinsel Heart – Mona’s Eyes/American Friend

Could this be the long awaited 7″ release on Matinee? I certainly hope so as we have been waiting for Malmo’s Tinsel Hearts to deliver a debut single for some time now. It sounds like they had gone down The Redskins route at the beginning of Mona’s Eyes as it gets a starts off like Lean On Me. Whilst not as funky it is still as dancey. American Friend sees the band returning back to familiar 1980’s jangling indie guitar territory. Tinsel Heart have given us two contrasting songs but more importantly, two very good songs indeed. Now is it … Continue reading Tinsel Heart – Mona’s Eyes/American Friend

The Records I Like feeds have previously been posted to Facebook under The Culture Bunker pages. However with some positive changes imminent I have decided to create a separate page for Records I Like on Facebook simply as another way of getting updates from this site. Possibly five years too late but who knows! You can find the Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/recordsilike/. Please like to subscribe. Continue reading Records I Like Facebook Page

Lost and Found – A Records I Like Playlist (April 2018 #1)

Unfortunately the past ten days have seen me laid low by a viral infection hence the lack of posts. I have updated the playlist I had ready to go two weeks ago so it’s a bit of a bumper crop. Thankfully these tracks are more pleasant in their infectiousness than what I have been suffering with. Enjoy! Click on the image to start the playlist. More playlists can be found here and the Playmoss page is here. Continue reading Lost and Found – A Records I Like Playlist (April 2018 #1)

The Age of Colored Lizards – If You Want Me Back / Still Around

The latest single from Norwegian alt-rockers The Age of Coloured Lizards is far and away their best yet. Two tracks that err on the nosier side of shoegazing that encompass everything you want in fuzzy pop songs. The single itself is a taster for the forthcoming album Tomorrow that is due out later this year. In the meantime pick up the single digitally from here. Facebook Continue reading The Age of Colored Lizards – If You Want Me Back / Still Around

Your Favourite Colour – April ’18

Your Favourite Colour is a brand new solo project from Ben who was (or still is?) in The Lodger. These two completed demos are melodic keyboard dominated tracks and his distinctive tones hark back to the indiepop brilliance of the aforementioned band. I knew it was him before making sure on t’ net! The lyrics and vocals on Former Life are very catchy indeed. It could (should) easily become a single on The Lodger’s former label Elefant. Lovely stuff and let’s hope there is more to come. Facebook Continue reading Your Favourite Colour – April ’18

Something For The Weekend? Damnably Presents – Attyuuma (Blink Of An Eye) 2018 Tour

London based promoter and label Damnably are promoting an excellent gig featuring their artists at London’s Scala on Thursday 19th April. I am there with bells on. This weeks pack of three features a track from each band playing. Otoboke Beaver – anata watashi daita ato yome no meshi Japan’s Otoboke Beaver are headlining and anata watashi daita ato yome no meshi is their latest single (Feb 18). I like the bands brand of shouty garage punk and this single is no exception. You can buy the band’s music from here. Fashionism – Come On My Baby

One for the stat fans. Come On My Baby by Canadian punk rockers Fashionism is my 1000th purchase on Bandcamp. Both sides of this excellent 7″ are bouncy, catchy with a distinctive 1970’s punk/pub rock meets glam sound. I am not sure why I am thinking of Canvey Island whilst I listen to this. Oh well…… Available on 7″ and digital formats from Drunken Sailor Records. Facebook Continue reading Fashionism – Come On My Baby

Ping Pong Club – Venetian Blinds

Bandung’s Ping Pong Club deliver a fine slice of indiepop in the shape of Venetian Blinds. It’s enhanced by some excellent vocals and even better synths which gives it some distinction when compared against similar tracks in my bandcamp feed. There is also a remix courtesy of The Countless Kisses which gives us some lovely noises but ultimately isn’t a patch on the original. Available digitally from here. На гребне волны – Легко

This Russian band’s name in English, as google translate assures me, is At The Crest Of The Wave and I guess the artwork confirms that! What we have here are four excellent 1960’s influenced twee/indiepop tracks woven with some fine rock and roll guitar in the style of Duanne Eddy – yes it works! And the singer’s voice is beautiful none more so than on Вода (Water). I was going to compare them to say The Yearning but they are already distinct enough to not warrant that. Give them a listen. Download for nowt from here. VK.Com Continue reading На гребне волны – Легко
