Fanclub – Stranger

I gave Fanclub a fleeting mention last month but with this, their third track, let’s give them more of a posting! I love the music and beats on Stranger which is their best track to date. Mixing a bit of synth pop here , a bit of twee there and plenty of indiepop everywhere this track mixes all those ingredients up perfectly. Everything you will want, and need, in a pop song. Don’t Let Go Of The Light – A Records I Like Playlist (November 2018 #2)

Normally as the we head towards the end of the year releases tend to dry up replaced by Christmas singles and specials. But my goodness there has been so much good stuff, released this past month or so, it’s made a second Playmoss playlist full of choice tunes possible. As ever click on the image to start. Enjoy! More playlists can be found here and the Playmoss page is here. Continue reading Don’t Let Go Of The Light – A Records I Like Playlist (November 2018 #2)

La Casa De Emma – Refugio Invernal EP

Well after being struck down with an ear infection since the weekend the first thing I have listened to all week is the new EP from Chilean band La Casa De Emma and it’s their first release proper following from the demos released earlier this year. Four of the five songs here don’t top the 105 seconds mark being fast, frantic and damn good. It’s on the final and longest song Skolniks where the band excel mind. It sounds like a long long classic from the C86 era and even at 3m.15s it’s way too short as the vocalist sings … Continue reading La Casa De Emma – Refugio Invernal EP

Short Feelings – A Records I Like Playlist (September #2)

I have been struggling to listen to anything this past week or so but still have managed to cobble a second playlist from the month from the snippets I have managed to grab. Lots of stuff here and hopefully I can do them justice with a few words over the next week or two. In the meantime click on the image to start the playlist and , as ever (I hope!), enjoy. More playlists can be found here and the Playmoss page is here. Continue reading Short Feelings – A Records I Like Playlist (September #2)

Snowflakes – Sway

On Sway Snowflakes pay homage to all things Sarah Records and I can certainly hear elements of The Wake and Another Sunny Day during the song and that is no bad thing. Flip side New Soul is not so twee and if I had to draw a comparison the Lightning Seeds spring to mind. Despite being around since 2003 this is the first I have heard from this Japanese outfit who luckily for me have their entire discography available on Bandcamp for a bargain price! I suggest you dive in too…. Homepage Continue reading Snowflakes – Sway

Compilation Week – Indietracks Compilation 2018

The UK’s premier DIY-pop/indiepop festival is approaching fast as one of the Midland Railway Centre’s restored steam trains. There are over 50 bands playing, including two Sarah Records bands, with British Sea Power headlining on the Saturday night. As in previous years there is a cut price compilation available featuring 40 of the artists playing including the likes of Night Flowers, Melenas, Even As We Speak, Boyracer, LInda Guilala, Tinsel Heart and many more. I have not been for a few years now so this is the nearest I am getting – for now! Indietracks takes place between 27th and … Continue reading Compilation Week – Indietracks Compilation 2018

На гребне волны – Легко

This Russian band’s name in English, as google translate assures me, is At The Crest Of The Wave and I guess the artwork confirms that! What we have here are four excellent 1960’s influenced twee/indiepop tracks woven with some fine rock and roll guitar in the style of Duanne Eddy – yes it works! And the singer’s voice is beautiful none more so than on Вода (Water). I was going to compare them to say The Yearning but they are already distinct enough to not warrant that. Give them a listen. Download for nowt from here. VK.Com Continue reading На гребне волны – Легко
