Univers hail from Barcelona and on their debut album L’Estat Natural they initially suggest to me that they are a Catalan version of a Sea Monsters era Wedding Present. However subsequent listens suggest they are poppier than that with more than a state side slant. The sulky vocals, crashing guitars and the pulsating drive in each song more than make up for the fact that, unless you speak Catalan, you have no idea what they are singing about. Easter has just improved with the news that Gold-Bears are to release their second album Dalliance on June 3rd via Slumberland Records. Their debut album Are You Falling in Love? was a corker and judging by For You they are continuing in the same vein. Frontman Jeremy Underwood’s vocals are still distinctive as ever and they go well with the fast and furious guitars.
