Various Artists – Fuzz Pop

As some of you may have gathered from this blog I prefer the fuzzier side of indiepop. Definitely no flippin’ ukuleles for me and cut down on the glockenspiels too (although I admit some bands do use those to good effect). So this cassette compilation from Stoke On Trent’s Very Gun Records is right up my street. Fuzz Pop features twenty noisy & fuzzy tunes from a variety of bands most of whom I have not heard before. Tyrannosaurus Dead recently released their debut long player Flying Ant Day on Oddbox Records. It features ten tracks including the single Post Holiday Dead Song as well as personal fave Local Bullies. Zipper – The Worst Day Of The Week

Currently no one does fuzzy indie pop better than Madrid’s Zipper in my view and their brand new single The Worst Day Of The Week isn’t going to see them relinquish that particular crown just yet. Pure pop from a great band on a great label…………. It’s out now on limited edition 7″ single via Dufflecoat Records. Get it (but save me a copy as I don’t get paid until next week!) Hjearts – Hungry Ghost

When you play Hjearts for the first time it sounds like a record in your collection that you just cannot place. And that feeling keeps occurring track after track. That’s not to say there is nowt original here and there are plenty of ideas competing with one another in order to be heard. Hungry Ghost (the 4th EP in as many months) is chock full of strong songs none more so than Flowering Judas which is one of the finest examples of fuzzy DIY bedroom pop you will hear this year. Gonna give those other EP’s available a listen now. … Continue reading Hjearts – Hungry Ghost
