The Fireworks – Runaround

The contenders for song of the year keep on coming. Originally sounding like a Subway Organisation tribute act (and there is definately nothing wrong with that in my view!) The Fireworks have totally expanded beyond that original pigeonhole and have now gone further musically more than I imagined they ever could after witnessing one of their first ever live shows a couple of years back. The mix between Emma’s vocals, the melodies that scream pop at ya and the fuzzy guitars are simply sublime. Simply put I love this! It’s on on 7″ and mp3 via Shelflife Records. Pre-order here. … Continue reading The Fireworks – Runaround

The Salient Braves – Somewhere Sordid EP

The title and lead track on this EP will more than likely to be in my top 10 tracks of the year. Hell the rest of the EP is pretty fine too. It certainly is one of the strongest releases musically I have heard in 2013 coupled with intelligent and witty writing. There is even a decent cover of The Kinks Waterloo Sunset which may give you an idea behind some of main man Matt Bailey’s songwriting influences. The Occasional Flickers – Capitalism Begins at Home

I must admit that the Occasional Flickers had fallen off my radar since 2007’s “When The Sky Looks So Gray” single. The band were founded by Greek born Giorgos Bouras and are now based in Edinburgh. You can hear some of Scotlands musical influences here. I am not gonna mention any bands as that will constitute a review suffice to say this one of the finest pieces of indiepop I have heard this year. The single is out now on 7″ vinyl from Cloudberry Records. You can download a mp3 of the single from here Homepage Facebook Continue reading The Occasional Flickers – Capitalism Begins at Home
