Jetstream Pony – Like You Less

Brighton based Jetstream Pony release their debut single Like You Less next week on German label Kleine Untergrund Schallplatten. It’s a vintage sounding indiepop song which reminds me of an early Primitives. C17 or what! It’s available on 7″ and details of how to order it can be found here. Seafang – Solid Gold

Seafang follow up last years excellent Motorcycle Song single with two more slices of C86 era fuzzy indie pop. Solid Gold harks back to the likes of The Shop Assistants, The Fizzbombs and a lazy era Primitives. Stardust adds some shoegaze to the layers of fuzziness sounding like a transitional My Bloody Valentine. Excellent!. I am not sure if Playmoss is making me lazy or if it’s given me the chance to post more music that grabs me more than normal. The first couple of songs that open this EP are two of the finest examples of fuzzy, diy indiepop that you are likely to hear this year. Imagine Talulah Gosh mixed with This Poison or The Wedding Present and that will give you an idea of the sound. The C86 vibes continue through the remainder of the EP which, to put it in a nutshell, is short but fast, fuzzy and fun. And essential listening for any indiepop fan. Alvvays – In Undertow

In Undertow is the first single to be taken from Alvvays forthcoming album Antisocialites which is due out in September. It’s a thriving but bittersweet breakup song complete with fuzzy, sometimes anthem like, guitars whilst singer Molly Rankin’s vocals and lyrics are as strong as ever. Sea Blite – Sea Blite

Extremely catchy pop music from San Francisco’s Sea Blite who have a sound that transcends through the decades. I can hear 1960’s girl bands alongside 1980’s indiepop, 1960’s garage and music from the 1990’s such as Tiger Trap, The Softies and All Girl Summer Fun Band to name but a few. It’s all lovely stuff and If tracks like Pretend and Woolly Jumper don’t have you smiling or at least tapping your feet by the end I will, erm, eat my woolly sweater! The Sweetest Touch – Too Many Dust, Too Many Haze

I am not sure why the legacy of Sarah Records, and C86 in general, is so big in Indonesia. Bands from that country has been producing high quality indiepop for years and this, the latest release by The Sweetest Touch, is no exception. The whole EP sounds like it is from another decade. You could have sneaked the excellent title track onto the recent C88 compilation from Cherry Red and no one would have been the wiser.
