The Fireworks – Switch Me On

It’s been out for a couple of weeks now and it’s a cracker setting the benchmark for all other album releases this year. From opener With My Heart via the brilliant single Runaround to the closing track it’s a glorious way to spend 37 and a bit minutes. That means I get to play it twice on my journey into work! Get it from Rough Trade (UK) or Shelflife Records (US) Photo by Pierre Delpino taken at the bands recent launch show at Rough Trade East. Talbot Adams – Green Girl/I Love You So

I have not come across Talbot Adams before but a quick glance at his bandcamp page show releases going back to 2010. Green Girl is his new single and has that authentic 1980’s indie sound about it. It’s pretty infectious too and will have your attention throughout. Flip side I Love You So doesn’t quite grab me in the same way. It’s a bit hit and miss and whilst the 1960’s vocal effects are nice the track doesn’t bring anything new to the party. Buy for the A side. It’s out on 7″ vinyl via Market Square Records. get it … Continue reading Talbot Adams – Green Girl/I Love You So

The Fireworks – On and On

On and On is taken from the Fireworks forthcoming debut album Switch Me On which is due for release in February 2015 on Shelflife Records. On and On is noisy, frantic and clocks in under two minutes. Think The Buzzcocks meeting up with The Shop Assistants. Now that’s the perfect pop recipe for me. On and On is available digitally from here. You can pre-order Switch Me On in blood red vinyl as well as CD from the label (US) or you can order the CD version via the band or vinyl via Rough Trade (UK/EU). The Popguns – Pop Fiction

I have finally got around to listening to the new album from The Popguns and like the recent single Lovejunky (included here) there are no real surprises here in comparison to their previous ouput – their last album A Plus de Cent came out in 1996. However when that is all done & said it’s a thoroughly enjoyable listen and isn’t that what it is all about? The aforementioned single is a highlight as is Still Waiting For The Winter which harks back to a certain single from 1989. Only on Not Your Night Tonight does that pace take a … Continue reading The Popguns – Pop Fiction

My Light Shines For You – días de lluvia EP

Back in September I mentioned My Light Shines For You and their track Little Little which was taken from an EP titled días de lluvia. Back then I was unsure where you could buy it but now the full EP has just been released in digital formats. I thought Little Little was a fine example of C86 inspired pop and I am happy to say the whole EP carries on in pretty much the same vein especially on Green Bicycle Girl. I really like this EP especially the female vocals throughout which reminds me in part of Amelia Fletcher. You … Continue reading My Light Shines For You – días de lluvia EP

The Popguns – Lovejunky 7″

The Lovejunky 7″ contains the first new Popguns songs for 18 years. Whilst that is a long time The Popguns sound hasn’t changed one bit. Phew. The label claim it’s a smash hit. Who am I to disagree? Classic, vintage indiepop…….. It’s out on limited edition cherry red vinyl and the title track is backed with Long Way To Fall and Home Late. Neither of these tracks will appear on the forthcoming Pop Fiction album. Lovejunky is out now on Matinee Recordings. Order from here. Facebook PS: I know I mentioned this song back in June but it’s out now!!! Continue reading The Popguns – Lovejunky 7″
