The Wolfhounds – Now I’m A Killer

Now I’m A Killer is taken from The Wolfhound’s new album Untied Kingdom (…or how to come to terms with your culture) that will be released on Oddbox Records in October. It will be their first album comprising of entirely new music for over twenty five years. Now I’m A Killer is a snarling track that demonstrates that class is timeless in the Wolfhound’s case as this could easily be lifted from one of their Pink Label or Midnight Music releases of yesteryear. As for the album’s cover it’s that wonderful photo taken this past new years eve in Manchester. … Continue reading The Wolfhounds – Now I’m A Killer

The Fireworks – All The Time

All The Time is taken from The Fireworks new EP entitled Black and Blue. It’s a 1980’s inspired fuzzy indiepop track which is catchy, addictive and most importantly, as demonstrated by the video, FUN! The rest of the EP mixes up the indiepop template a fair bit and if you are a fan of C86 and it’s ilk you will love it. The EP is out now on 10″ vinyl via Shelflife Records or if you are still in the EU it’s best to pick it up from the band’s bandcamp page or Rough Trade. Seafang – Motorcycle Song

On their Facebook page Florida’s Seafang like C86, The Shangri-Las, The Shop Assistants, My Bloody Valentine, Black Tambourine and many many more of a similar ilk. So no guessing what their music sounds like then. It’s a wonderful infusion of 1980’s indie, girl bands and even a smattering of shoegaze. Standout for me is the closer Be The One which takes me back thirty years and the sounds of The Primitives and The Darling Buds. Wonderful stuff. It’s out on 7″ single via Elephant Stone Records and is that labels first release in four years! Alternatively buy from the band’s … Continue reading Seafang – Motorcycle Song

Jessica & The Fletchers – Marble Fountain/Crystal Tears

The new 7″ single from Jessica & The Fletchers serves up two fine pieces of C86 style noise pop. It reminds me of the records released on Lazy Records in their prime such as the likes of The Primitives and the pre-Creation My Bloody Valentine who are just a few of the bands who have provided Barcelona’s finest (and that includes the football team!) with inspiration. My words cannot do the two tracks here justice so just press play to your hearts content. Then buy! Marble Fountain/Crystal Tears is out now via Market Square Records. Facebook Bandcamp Continue reading Jessica & The Fletchers – Marble Fountain/Crystal Tears

Jessica & The Fletchers – Connecting People

Barcelona’s Jessica & The Fletchers have just released their debut album. Entitled Connecting People it’s chock fall of noisy and fun pop tunes that hark back to years gone by especially the fuzzier side of the C86 era. So much so they should have released it on a flexi disc. Connecting People is limited to just 100 CD copies (it’s begging for a vinyl release) on the Discos De Kirlian label. Get it from here or digitally from the band or label. Facebook Continue reading Jessica & The Fletchers – Connecting People

Don’t Cry Shopgirl – Bring Me Home

Bring Me Home is the lead track from the excellently named Swedish band Don’t Cry Shopgirl’s debut 7″ single. There was a time, almost 10 years ago now, that all I seemed to listen too was Swedish indiepop via self released CDRs  and this track reminds me of that time. It’s influenced by the bands of the C86 (dare I say twee?) era but it’s done oh, so well. Marvellous and I will be ordering a copy come payday! You can pre-order the single from Cloudberry Records. Facebook Soundcloud Continue reading Don’t Cry Shopgirl – Bring Me Home

The Haywains – Bobbie Gentry’s Tears E.P

The Bobbie Gentry’s Tears EP is the new EP from indie veterans The Haywains. It features four well crafted lo-fi, DIY songs that cavort through the indiepop model with ease. It’s enjoyable stuff none more so than on Are You Making A Fool Out Of Somebody New? with it’s jangling guitars accompanied by regretful boy/girl vocals. It’s available on 7″ vinyl from Dufflecoat Records or digitally via the band’s bandcamp page. Homepage Continue reading The Haywains – Bobbie Gentry’s Tears E.P
