bentcousin – Dizzy

Tom

Dizzy is the second single from bentcousin who comprise of twins Amelia and Pat. It sounds like a cross between Colour Me Wednesday and Curve’s Ten Little Girls thanks to the rap in the middle. Don’t let that three letter word put you off as this is a great summer pop tune. Things get darker however on the brooding flip side that shows there is more to bentcousin than meets the eye (or should that be ears?). Dizzy is out on Team Love Records in 7″ and digital formats. Get it from the label (US) or from Norman Records for … Continue reading bentcousin – Dizzy

Gingerlys – Jumprope EP

Tom

Any record featuring female vocals and fuzzy guitars is going to be a winner in my book and the debut EP from Gingerlys is no exception especially on Summer Cramps which could develop into a terrace chant. I think this EP will be on permanent play for a while. The Jumprope EP is released next week on Shelflife Records on 7″ vinyl and digital formats. Pre-order it here. You can get free live/demo versions of some of the EP from here and here. Facebook Continue reading Gingerlys – Jumprope EP

Univers – L’Estat Natural

Tom

Univers hail from Barcelona and on their debut album L’Estat Natural they initially suggest to me that they are a Catalan version of a Sea Monsters era Wedding Present. However subsequent listens suggest they are poppier than that with more than a state side slant. The sulky vocals, crashing guitars and the pulsating drive in each song more than make up for the fact that, unless you speak Catalan, you have no idea what they are singing about. Music is a univers (al) language indeed. Excellent stuff. Buy on vinyl from the label or digitally from the band. Facebook Continue reading Univers – L’Estat Natural
