Grubs feature members from Joanna Gruesome and Two White Cranes. Dec 15th is their first song and it’s a great thrashy punk-pop song the clocks in at under two minutes. Somehow it manages to sound like everything else but still remain original. Facebook Soundcloud Continue reading Grubs – Dec 15th

I Feel Like I’m On Drugs is taken from The Strange Creatures forthcoming second EP titled Stargazer which is due out in May. It’s full of interesting ideas floating between indiepop, dreampop and shoegaze but gets bogged down in parts due to the songs length. That said I am still looking forward to hearing the EP in full where it may all make sense. Homepage Facebook Continue reading The Strange Creatures – I Feel Like I’m On Drugs
Embers is taken from Night Flowers new 10″ single which is due out at the beginning of April on Dirty Bingo Records. It reminds me of The Pale Saints which is no bad thing and I am looking forward to hearing the whole shebang. Pre-Order here. Their début release is still available as a free download here. Get it – it’s flippin’ great! Facebook Continue reading Night Flowers – Embers
Vintage sounding bedroom pop from the south of England with both tracks here paying homage to the likes of Another Sunny Day, The Razorcuts and The Subway Organisation. On The Right Track sounds like it was lifted from one of those German indiepop tapes that were floating around twenty five years ago. Free download. I have been meaning to jot down some words about Coach Longlegs No Dogs At Shows on Unpop for a month or two now. If it’s shambling lo-fi DIY indiepop you are after then you lend this lot your ears. I love the rawness of this and whilst the novelty may wear off at some point this for the time being is just fun pop rather than Unpop. It’s available as a cassette release for just £2 or pay what you want for it digitally at Unpop. Facebook Continue reading Coach Longlegs – No Dogs At Shows
Forget the nonsense that is the 76 track (yes 76 tracks!) reissue of the C86 cassette Cherry Red will be releasing later this year. If you buy one compilation in 2014 make sure it’s Nobody’s Business released by the fledgling Dutch label Candy Twist Records. I have been streaming this album for weeks now since I first mentioned it and now this beauty has been signed, sealed and delivered alongside the latest issue of the fanzine. I Wish You’d Go by the Fireworks is the opening track and it sets the tone for the whole album. Stream here Buy here Continue reading The Fireworks – I Wish You’d Go
Dora Maar hail from Edinburgh but you can hear echoes of Glasgow’s Postcard Records in their music whether it’s Josef K or The Go-Betweens. Their jangle pop may be reminiscent of bands who appeared on C86 but I suggest that it’s C81 where they would have the snugger fit. Check out Jessica Says at least – it’s simply sublime It’s out now on cassette (not many left – hurry!) or digital download via Bandcamp. Homepage Continue reading Dora Maar – Dora Maar
Caténine is one Dylan Connor and I have enjoyed his melancholic indie-pop to date. His latest release is called In Your Ruin and it sounds a bit like a Factory era The Wake especially when it comes to the mournful vocals. It’s out now as a free download on February Records. Brighton based Fear Of Men release their début album Loom on April 21st (a day later in the States) on Kanine Records in a range of formats including a limited edition coloured vinyl set for Record Store Day (19th April). I must admit it took me a while to appreciate the band’s previous output collated on last years Early Fragments but Loom’s opening tracks Alta and Waterfall, both previewed here, are impressive to say the least. You can pre-order Loom here. Homepage Continue reading Fear Of Men – Alta/Waterfall
