Three For Joy?

Three recent releases catching my interest, I mean ears.

I Was A King – House Warming

Norwegian band I Was A King have just released their fourth album Until The End. I am still embedding myself with the album, but the track that immediately blew me away was House Warming which fuses indiepop with fuzzy psychedelia. Reminds me of the Swedish band Easy.

Until The End is out now via Hype City Music.

Betty Brite – Quikwash

There is some interesting stuff to be found on Quikwash which is the debut EP from Brooklyn’s Betty Brite. It’s a fine example of DIY bedroom, well actually basement, recorded music blending twee pop with twang. The girl band sounds of Starting Line and Something New stand out for me. It’s like listening to a mellow version of The School.

Quikwash can be purchased from here.

Scouse Tihs Actcent – I Was Swerving With Some Scran & a Bevvy

Aside from the dreadful band name and EP title, I am really hoping this release is a tribute to Hiroshi Suzuki, who is the Japanese ambassador to the UK and all round diamond geezer. Despite embracing local culture I don’t think he picked up a guitar on his recent visit to Liverpool and instead this EP comes via way of Indonesia.

I suspect some local humour is at play here, especially as the label decries the release as a rip-off. The tunes here err on the side of the 1980s UK indiepop scene and are not that bad to be fair, especially on the track Tomb. Available on a pay what you want basis from A Single Kiss!
