The latest release from the Jakarta based Lost Wave Records is a split release between The Flight Of Maltanese and Marryanne. The label describes the release as a collaboration between twee pop and shoegaze and rather than a hybrid of those sounds it’s one track from each camp.
The Flight Of Maltanese give us Campina that sounds like a trip down memory lane, invoking memories of a Subway era The Chesterfields with hints of The Brilliant Corners thanks to it’s guitar twangs complete with joyful & tuneful vocals.
Marryanne’s effort Violet is lifted from their debut EP Into The Void which came out in August last year. It’s a shimmering, ethereal effort that harks back to Shoegaze’s early “daze” and is a complete contrast to the grunged tinged/dark shoegaze efforts that seem to be the rage these days. Na, give me this sound over that any day.
It’s available digitally or on cassette via the label. Only nine copies of the latter left at time of writing! Er make that eight……
