The year is not yet two months complete but one band who have caught my ear somewhat thoroughly is the Indonesian act The Interpretation Cultures who are based in based in Makassar. The band consists of Fadhli Rafq Al-Fath (guitar, vocals, keyboards), Anaang Ma’ruf (guitar), Febrianto Syam (bass, keyboards) and Danuarta Dwi (drums, tambourine).
January saw the release of a self titled three track EP on Chaotic Pop Records. Those three tracks appear on this EP alongside the track Distraction that appeared on this months wonderful Trusted Riders compilation.
Thankfully there is more in the shape of two recently completed tracks We Are TIC and How Do You Believe. The former, which opens the EP, is a wonderful instrumental with guitar work that reminds me of the pop sounds produced by Ian Broudie. There is a bit of the sadly missed Hiki on there too. The band’s strength is their retro sounding DIY/Bedroom pop and the latter is a fine example. Driven by keyboards and monotype vocals which builds into a guitar led crescendo that demonstrates an expansive side to their indiepop. Oh and kudos for the cover art too.
I guess this EP draws a line in the sand for their work thus far and, based on the evidence found within, the future shows great promise. HEARS to more!
