Various Artists – Strawberry Punks Vol.5

Almost a year since the last volume was released the Disanorak curated Strawberry Punks reaches volume five.

Gauntlet open proceedings with some tongue in cheek DIY pop on I Listen to The Pastels (More Than You) and The Sensitive follow it with a “sensitive” cover of Blue Boy’s Too Good To Be True.

Next up is Egofatum, who we last heard from on Volume Three, with the very raw (demo?) sounding Melamun Melantur. Not sure if it’s a live take but it’s a good listen. Here is to a higher quality version.

Cheeseu Club do what they do best on Cause N Effect which is a fuzzy C86 inspired indiepop song. It could had been on the Subway organisation label yonks ago. Jennifer carry on with their Sarah Records and Orchids obsession on Fading Calm that, despite my love/hate relationship with the band, has some beautiful moments.

The final track from Broken Chains has some very (very!) early New Order sounds running throughout meaning it is somewhat out of place when compared to their peers on this release. But diversity is a good thing because they certainly stand out with No Tears Will Fall. Here’s too volume 6 this time next year!
