Autocamper – Summertime

It seems the world and his wife have quite rightly finally fallen for Manchester’s Autocamper thanks to their latest single Summertime.

Whilst they declare “not twee, not anorak, not lucky, just pop” on their Bandcamp page, components of all those contribute to their sound which blends the indiepop of the UK, circa early to mid 1980’s, and New Zealand’s Dunedin sound right down to a tee.

Summertime itself is a near perfect with jangling guitars, driving percussion and vocals that sound a bit wayward at times which contributes to the charm. There is more of a 1960’s underground pop influence on their ode to Chinese chef Ken Hom. The organ/keyboard drives the song working wonderfully well alongside the deadpan vocala and that pulsating percussion. All the ingredients you need in a song really – I will get my coat!

The cassette version seems to have sold out but you can still get it digitally from Bandcamp.
