Attic Ocean hail from Düsseldorf, Germany and have been making music for a couple of years now. The new Retriever EP is the first I have heard of them and based on it’s contents it sounds like I have missed a lot.
I rarely start a review, if that’s what you call call my warbling these days, with a conclusion but let’s buck that trend. Retriever is quite simply once of the best dreampop/shoegaze EPs I have ever heard. Yes, I think it’s that good.
Opening with the extremely catchy Young Again, which veers between indiepop and dreampop, the EP migrates towards into full on shoegaze territory. The guitars shimmer and glisten with translucence beauty whilst the vocals of lead singer Hanni add an ethereal edge to the songs.
To be honest there are no standout tracks here because all would deserve a place in the end of the years list as they are all as good (excellent?) as each other. Enough gushing from me – go and grab a listen now.
