Belfast’s Problem Patterns’ new single is bristling with anger. Fusing riot grrrl and punk, the resulting Lesbo 3000 is a powerful retort for all the homophobic haters out there. It’s shouty, sweary coupled with a defiant, and triumphant message. “Call me a dyke it’s a badge of honour/Call me a Dyke, I wear it with pride!” they holler, giving homophobic abusers a verbal smack around the chops. Oh, it’s very loud too!
It’s backed with Poverty Tourist, which is another savage dig. “Isn’t it funny that being perceived as having no money is profitable, you get to play dress up while others struggle to keep up” they sing. I am not sure who their target is, but they had better keep their head down.
Both tracks appear on their forthcoming album Blouse Club, which will be released via Alcopop! Records on October 27 2023. For now, grab this excellent single from here.
