Something For The Weekend? Eviva España

This week’s pack of three features three acts from Spain.

Amor Propio – ¡Qué ilusión!

¡Qué ilusión! is the second single from the Barcelona based Amor Propio, who feature members of Cola Jet Set and Brighton 64 in their line-up. It’s a fuzzy track that blends together 1960s garage and 1980s indiepop to great effect.

¡Qué ilusión! is out now via Hurrah! Música. It’s a Limited edition vinyl run of only 250 copies. You will have to email the label for one. Or alternatively pick up a digital copy.

La Culpa – Cuando Amanece

I don’t normally recommend a whole album as part of the Something For The weekend series but, given that the second album from Valencia based La Culpa is over in just after 20 minutes, it merits a worthy mention. Laden in the main with noisy shouty punk-influenced indiepop songs, the album’s ten tracks are a blast. Tu Cara Idiota, Siempre Todo and Nos vemos de noche are my pick of a very strong bunch.

Cuando Amanece is out now via Humo Internacional.

Die Katapult – Waschmaschine

Waschmaschine is one of two singles released by the Spanish-Swedish duo this past week. I can safely say it’s the first song I have ever heard where the lyrics are based on a washing machine manual. It sounds like a mix of Kraftwerk’s robotics combined with the poppy synth-pop of Telex. Entertaining to say the least!

Waschmaschine is out now digitally via Elefant Records.
