The Sundries – Full of the Joys of Spring

To say I was not taken 100% with The Sundries first EP Magic Johnson would be an understatement as my review at the time would attest. So over two years later I was intrigued to find out what the follow up EP, Full Of The Joys of Spring, would bring. And you know what it ain’t bad!

The band’s sound now is a fully blossomed indiepop one with plenty of twee references throughout with the ukulele driven indie-folk influences that were prevalent on the first EP seemingly dispersed with. Throw in trumpets, handclaps, jangling guitars, joint vocals, melodic synths and Alice Player’s lovely voice and we have a fine mix indeed. In fact that voice is one of the band’s defining features, making one sit up and listen in the first instance. And several more instances afterwards! There is not a filler track amongst the four here and the whole EP makes for excellent indiepop listening. The Fanfarlo influenced Triumph Herald certainly is a joy to listen too.

The Full Of The Joys of Spring can be purchased from here. For those, like me in South East London, the band play The Amersham Arms in New Cross on Saturday 01 October 2022. Tickets can be picked up from here.
