It’s Bandcamp Friday so it’s no surprise that we have three brand new singles comprising this weeks pack of three.
The Boys With The Perpetual Nervousness – Open Up The Box
A slow burning jangling tune with wistful vocals mixed with sometimes poignant words sees (hears?) the return of TBWTPN. The Scottish/Spanish duo of Andrew Taylor and Gonzalo Marcos are bang on the money once again. Open Up The Box is out now via Bobo Integral.
Airhockey – Grapefruit
It’s been almost two years since we last heard from Miami’s Air Hockey. Grapefruit is not a bad tune to come back with thanks to it’s frantic synths, shimmering guitars and Sebastian Hidalgo’s distinct (robotic/spoken?) vocal style.
The Photocopies – Quadruple A-side
A Quadruple A-side is a new one on me! The Photocopies have been threatening to wrestle the mantle from Bubblegum Lemonade for some time now and they finally manage to do so on the fuzzy, 1960s inspired Scooter Girl.
That’s cemented on the the sparkling Inside Out Upside Down whilst Where The Sun Don’t Shine is a short C86 inspired burst that reminds us why we all got interested in The Photocopies in the first place. I am not sure it will be on Bojo the clowns playlist though.
Control Freak is a damning indictment on the Putin and his war in the Ukraine. There is even a short “b-side” in the form of the half a minute Glass Elevator. Charlie would be proud especially when knowing that all proceeds of this EP will be sent to the Red Cross in support of their work in the Ukraine. Buy!
