Ivory Past/Snowflakes feat . Miléna – Illuminated Songs EP

A two song EP (er?) from two Japanese based indiepop acts. The Ivory Past track December is simply immense on first, second, third and subsequent listens. It’s catchy and addictive janglepop. Sadly the Snowflakes effort is pretty ordinary by their high standards. Previous effort Sway was excellent but this pale by comparison and just does not do anything for me. Maybe it will work for you. The Illuminated Songs EP will soon get a cassette release (let’s hope there are more than two tracks!) but for now get it digitally from either Ivory Past or Snowflakes. Snowflakes – Sway

On Sway Snowflakes pay homage to all things Sarah Records and I can certainly hear elements of The Wake and Another Sunny Day during the song and that is no bad thing. Flip side New Soul is not so twee and if I had to draw a comparison the Lightning Seeds spring to mind. Despite being around since 2003 this is the first I have heard from this Japanese outfit who luckily for me have their entire discography available on Bandcamp for a bargain price! The Garlands – Christmas Song

Is it me or are there more indiepop Christmas songs out this year than is the norm?
