Given their irregular discography San Francisco’s Minipop seem to have been going for about nine years now but this is the first I have heard of them. Their new EP Chances is packed to the rafters with shimmering guitars, etherial female vocals and dreamy, melodic rhythms. Seoul based Nice Legs are Mark Lentz and Lauren E Walker and Lullaby Land is their first EP. It’s diy indiepop throughout reminding me of The San Marinos – rememeber them? – especially on the first track. Granted it get’s a tad predictable in places but there is plenty here to suggest that they are fully capable of making a special song or two in the future. Fresh from being selected as Band Of The Day in the Guardian David Alexander aka Summer Heart has released his latest single and it is poppier than ever. Despite the horrendous title it manages to maintain originality to distinguish it from the commercial pap that constantly floods our ears these days reminding me of the Balearic/chill out tunes of old. I Feel Like I’m On Drugs is taken from The Strange Creatures forthcoming second EP titled Stargazer which is due out in May. It’s full of interesting ideas floating between indiepop, dreampop and shoegaze but gets bogged down in parts due to the songs length.
