Blind Delon – Edouard EP

Excellent post-punk from French act Blind Delon via Spanish label Oráculo Records. The music is a mix of minimal synth-pop coupled with a fair share of Gothic undertones. Stuff like this really cheers me up no end and this EP has been on regular play for the past week. Excellent stuff and is recommended for fans of Factory Benelux and Les Disques du Crépuscule for one (or should that be two?). Available on 12″ vinyl or digitally. The Agnes Circle – Modern Idea

London’s The Agnes Circle supply us with four slices of Gothic tinged post punk on their debut Modern Idea EP. Musically it echoes to the sound of the past. I can hear bits of Wire, The Cure, Joy Division and The Cocteau Twins amongst others. Florian Voytek’s strong vocals are also another plus drawing the listener in deeper and the end result is that this EP has been on repeat for a few days now. Excellent stuff…… It’s available digitally from the band. A 12″ version should be available soon via Manic Depression Records. Facebook Continue reading The Agnes Circle – Modern Idea

Forever Grey – The Red Hall

Another track from the prolific Forever Grey. Luckily it’s not a case of quantity over quality. The Red Hall again echoes to the sound of the past (is that Red Lorry Yellow Lorry’s Chris Reed on vocals?) but the addition of joint vocals once again shows a band expanding beyond their influences. And here is a live recording of Sourland taken from their September Ice EP. Facebook Continue reading Forever Grey – The Red Hall

Forever Grey – Telling The Daffodils

Michigan’s Forever Grey manage to invoke both the imagery and sounds associated with the European post punk scene so much so that the band would not have not looked out of place in Brussels in 1979/1980. On their previous releases Forever Grey reminded me of Joy Division and Red Lorry Yellow Lorry. Here they manage to sound like everyone but no one else at the same time! I especially like the male/female vocals up against the sombre music and I could listen to this type of music everyday. All their releases are available on a pay what you want basis. … Continue reading Forever Grey – Telling The Daffodils

GreyVision – Waves/Clouds

Italian act greyVision have released two EP’s this month that hark back to post punk coldwave and darkwave, two areas I have been rediscovering & exploring recently. Both Waves and Clouds veer towards minimalism with nods to both 4AD and Mute as well as the likes of Kraftwerk and Dead can Dance. You can get both EPs on a pay what you want basis from bandcamp.
