The Interpretation Cultures is an indiepop band from Makassar, Indonesia.Rather than summarise the label blurb here is is in all it’s glory:
It started off by listening to a compilation by The Kids at the Club: An Indiepop Compilation (2006) and some compilations from Sarah Records. Inspired by Stephen Merritt’s projects, The Shop Assistants, Beat Happening, and the indiepop band scene of the 80s into the 90s.
This debut release features three tracks. The guitars strum whilst the vocals are hazy on opener The Molly Pop Song. It’s a short and sweet DIY pop song. Two covers then follow.
The first up is their take on The 6th’s Falling Out Of Love (With You) which is dreamy and hazy when compared to the original and works really well. The next take is on My Life Is Better With Indiepop originally by Anselmus. The rawness of the original has been displaced by a poppier sound making the track sound like their own. Well if you didn’t know better of course!
The Interpretation Cultures can be purchased from Chaotic Pop Records.
