We have not heard from Brooklyn’s Gingerlys for a couple of years now and I certainly have not heard from them since their self-titled debut album back in November 2017. They feature on this new split tape release from Shiny Happy Records who do seem to be in a prolific phase right now and they are joined by Indonesian band Nausea who are new to me.
Sadly the tracks from Gingerlys are not new. Corduroy Star originally appeared on the bonus edition of their 2014 debut EP Jumprope which was released on 2670 Records in 2016. The other track is a bedroom demo version of New Toys and the original can be found on the aforementioned album. Two good songs but… Maybe they have split. I don’t follow bands much these days.
However, their name on the release does give Nausea some promotion and it is the two tracks they provide that you should certainly dig out and listen to. Two slices of indiepop that hark back to indiepop’s golden era. Jangling guitars and female vocals make sure of that and they literally shine on Sun For You (pun most certainly intended). Fuzzy and most marvellous stuff.
A Split Tape can be purchased direct from the label.
