Given that one of their previous musical guises was called Peppermint Kisses it’s not too much of a surprise comparisons made with the Cocteau Twins on The Fawns Of Love debut LP Who Cares About Tomorrow especially given the vocals of Jenny Andreotti. Mind you she credits Sparks, who the band are massive fans of, for her vocal style rather than Elizabeth Fraser.
Over the course of the album I also hear hints of New Order (check those Peter Hook style bass rifts), My Bloody Valentine and, in the case of the percussion, Psychocandy era Jesus and Mary Chain. To be honest I am sold by the end of the second track. If you are a fan of any of those bands I have mentioned, especially the Cocteau Twins, then this is an essential listen – nae an essential purchase!
Buy on cassette or digital formats from the band.
